When you are buying a call tracking system you will be supplied with special phone numbers by your call tracking company.
These numbers are unique numbers used to track phone response from lots of different types of marketing.
Now just imagine how problematic it would be if these numbers that you are assigned are in fact not unique...but have been used in the recent past by a different company. Then you have a problem because you won't be able to track the calls. What's worse is that you'll be getting calls from someone that wants something totally different to what it is you sell.
Some call tracking companies recycle numbers frequently
Some companies recycle call tracking numbers. This means that if they have been used by a company in the recent past for advertising but have gone out of business, changed business or just haven't paid their call tracking software partner (!) then it's possible their numbers have been recycled.
If you buy a number that has been recycled it's not the end of the world.
What is does mean is that you might get calls from people looking for new cars when you are a restaurant. Annoying for the customer and annoying for you...but if it's just a couple a month, you can probably get over it.
But if it's a high volume, it looks bad for you, it wastes staff time and it completely throws out your figures in terms of being accurately be able to measure your marketing.
Something we recommend before you start marketing your unique number is to do a quick Google search on it.
You'll find out pretty quickly if the number is still "out there" and whether or not it's likely to cause you problems.
We ensure all our numbers at Admeter are fresh. Unless you want a secondhand one, (for example a local business that is like yours, has just gone out of business and is still getting calls from the Yellow Pages you can handle!)
